Inspired by a thread in the geocaching.com forums, I decided to try my hand at creating a geocaching wallpaper to call my very own. I used the EPS version of the geocaching.com logo (with permission) and converted it to a form that could be used in POV-Ray.
Then, it was off to Terraserver to find a suitable topo map. The one I settled on depicts part of the East Mojave National Scenic Area. Finally, to balance the image, I needed a compass. I created the compass myself from scratch, using some online pictures of antique compasses as a guide.
The result is a desktop wallpaper that I think is worth sharing with the world. There are two different versions. The first version is a bolder, brighter image, and the second is more subdued so your icons will show up better.
